Almaty, Kazakhstan

Almaty was the capital of Kazakhstan for much of history. However, it was replaced by Astana (now Nur-Sultan) for strategic reasons. While Nur-Sultan’s culture seems a bit artificial, Almaty exhibits a unique culture, with its Soviet roots.

The pictures below lack variety. I walked in a straight line as I was afraid to get lost without cellphone service. I was devastated after realizing that walking in a different direction would have led me to downtown.
